Jobbik: Hungary can no longer retain labour force coming from neighbouring countries

Jobbik considers it as the proof of incapacity of Hungarian governments in the past one and a half decades that while skilled Hungarian-speaking labour force was coming to our land in mass from Eastern Central Europe around the turn of the millennium, Hungary’s role has reduced by now to that of a transit country where people obtain citizenship just to be able to find a job in Western Europe.

The comprehensive article published based on the reports of several employment agencies justifies Jobbik’s position. While the government keeps talking about an improving labour market, the lack of skilled labour force increasingly hinders the expected economic growth. According to the data of the Hungarian Statistical Office, over 50 thousand jobs remained unfilled in the first quarter of 2016, and this negative trend has finally reached the market of skilled labourers, after that of engineers, IT experts and healthcare professionals.

The latest sad chapter of the Hungarian exodus is that while Hungary’s labour export was partly counterbalanced by the influx of Hungarians coming from the neighbouring countries up to the 2000s, low wages and bad working conditions now urge these Hungarians to fly through our country to the west by the hundreds of thousands. So the process, which has already been harmful from the national policy aspect, is now threatening with an economic crisis, too.

Jobbik cannot fathom why Fidesz has only just started to analyse the consequences of a potential employment tax cut, after six years in government, even though a townful of Hungarians have fled the country for economic reasons each year. Getting into government, the national opposition will eliminate the system of monies handed out on the basis of loyalty to the government party and will introduce an employment taxation system that ensures fair treatment for employers and employees alike.
