Hungarian foreign minsiter meets EU energy commissioner
Budapest (MTI) – Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s foreign minister, met Miguel Arias Canete, the European Union’s commissioner for energy and climate action, for talks in Budapest on Thursday.
After the meeting, Szijjártó said that Hungary’s energy security would increase significantly if the country could buy natural gas from Croatia and Romania through interlinked networks.
Energy ministers of central and south-eastern Europe will sign a declaration of intent at their meeting in Budapest on Friday, aimed at interconnecting national gas networks rather than building a new, south-north gas corridor through Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary, Szijjártó said.
Through the planned interconnector between Romania and Hungary, the latter country will have access to Azeri gas supplied to southern Europe, he added.
