Budapest Airport to start building pier in December
Budapest, September 21 (MTI) – Liszt Ferenc International operator Budapest Airport will start constructing a 5.2 billion forint (EUR 17m) pier at terminal 2B in December as all of the necessary permits have been acquired, business daily Világgazdaság said on Wednesday.
The 220 meter pier will expand the area of the terminal 2B by around 10,000 square meters and will have 27 gates and 10 air bridges. The airport’s annual capacity will expand from 11.5-12m passengers to 15-16m passengers, the paper said, citing Mihály Hardy the spokesman for Budapest Airport.
The investment, which will take 18 months to complete, is part of Budapest Airport’s five-year 50 billion forint investment programme launched in June and dubbed BUD 2020, which also includes the construction of an airport hotel, as well as cargo and security developments.
