US Special Envoy: Gas Supplies Within Central Europe Must Be Developed

Change language:
(MTI) – Natural gas supplies must be developed between central and southeast European countries in order to increase energy security in the region, US Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs Carlos Pascual said on Wednesday.
Pascual arrived in Budapest on Tuesday, heading a delegation, and attended a two-day forum organised by the Foreign Ministry focusing on energy security in the region. He held talks with Hungarian government representatives and Ukrainian government officials attending the forum.
Pascual said participants at the forum discussed ways to make viable the interconnectors linking the gas networks of countries in the region, for instance between Hungary and Slovakia and Hungary and Romania. Croatia could become an important player in gas supplies for the region once the LNG regasification terminal is completed on the island of Krk, he said.
