Ministry in touch with Dutch authorities over Malaysian plane crash, says spox

Budapest, July 18 (MTI) – The Hungarian foreign ministry is keeping in constant touch with the Dutch authorities in connection with the downed Malaysian passenger plane in Ukraine, the ministry’s spokeswoman told MTI on Friday.

The Malaysia Airlines’ Boeing 777 jet was on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 298 people on board when it crashed in Donetsk county in eastern Ukraine.

The Dutch authorities are continuing to check the plane’s passenger list to verify identities, said Anna Nagy. Some passengers have not yet been identified, she said, adding that the authorities would only make a final statement once all passengers have been accounted for.

According to Dutch and Ukrainian sources, 55 passengers on board were Dutch nationals, 23 American and four French.

Hungary’s embassy in The Hague told MTI that the Dutch foreign ministry had no information about any Hungarian passengers travelling on the plane.

The Hungarian foreign ministry on Thursday said in a statement that it urged an investigation by an independent international body into the circumstances of the plane crash.

It offered deepest condolences to the families of the people who lost their lives in the disaster.
