House speaker calls on Hungarian parties in Romania to cooperate

Székelyudvarhely, Romania (MTI) – László Kövér, Hungary’s House Speaker, on Monday called on Romania’s ethnic Hungarians to set aside their grievances and give a chance to the election alliance of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) and the Hungarian Civic Party (MPP).

Kövér addressed a forum in Odorheiu Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely) in central Romania ahead of the December 11 parliamentary elections.

His statements generated a keen debate, with almost all contributors expressing distrust in and reservations about RMDSZ. RMDSZ was defeated by a coalition of MPP and the Transylvanian Hungarian People’s Party (EMNP) in the local elections in June.

Transylvania’s Hungarians should understand that even the worst representation in Bucharest is better than having no representation at all, Kövér argued.
