Music Academy announces intl Bartók competition, festival for 2017
Budapest, December 6 (MTI) – Hungary’s Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music will host an international competition and festival in September 2017 to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Béla Bartók.
Andrea Vigh, the academy’s director, told a press conference on Tuesday that the global event would be the first in a series, involving a competition for composers and a musical symposium.
The competitions will be held in a different category each year. Nominations for the first contest, in the violin category, are welcome before March 26 next year, programme director Andras Csonka said.
Peter Hoppal, state secretary for culture, told the press conference that the government was contributing 160 million forints (EUR 51,000) to finance the event.
