Govt plans uniform wage rise at state-owned companies

Budapest, December 7 (MTI) – Hungary’s government plans a uniform wage rise for all employees of state-owned companies next year, the daily Magyar Idők said on Wednesday.

Imre Palkovics, who heads the Workers Council, told the paper unions were promised the wage rise at recent talks with employers and the government.

An agreement was reached at the talks in November on raising the minimum wages for skilled and unskilled workers by 25 percent and 15 percent, respectively, from next year.

Melinda Mészáros, the chairwoman of unions association Liga, confirmed the government’s plan to raise wages at the same pace at all state-owned companies.

Magyar Idők learnt the hike could come close to 10 percent.

Hungarian companies across the board expect to raise wages almost 8 percent next year, according to a survey conducted by economic research company GKI last month.
