Zsolnay Exhibition Opens in Former Army Headquarters in Buda Castle
(MTI) – Unique porcelain objects and ceramic roof tiles produced in the world renowned Zsolnay factory are on display at an exhibition that opened in Buda Castle on Friday.
The exhibition presents altogether 260 items on loan from a local museum and a private collection in southern Hungary’s Pecs, the home town of the industrialist-entrepreneur family and their porcelain factory.
It also shows short portrait films about the life, work and success of the Zsolnay dynasty.
The exhibition is the first show organised in the compound of the former Hungarian Army Headquarters built next to the former defence ministry in 1895-1897.
The neo-Renaissance building was seriously damaged in WWII with its upper two floors completely lost in the siege of Budapest that ended in February 1945.
The reconstruction of the building started in February last year in a 860 million forint project (EUR 2.74m).
The Zsolnay exhibition will be open until December 31, 2014.
