Hungarian mayors’ representative to personally submit petition against migrant quotas to Juncker
Budapest, December 15 (MTI) – Károly Szita, the head of Hungary’s Association of County Seats, plans to personally submit a petition against migrant quotas signed by nearly 2,500 mayors to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.
Szita, of the ruling Fidesz party, who is also the mayor of Kaposvár in south-western Hungary, told a press conference on Thursday that he has asked for a meeting with Juncker where he would also like to present the opinion of the mayors.
“We had originally planned to post the letter to Brussels but several of my colleagues, also mayors, suggested that we should ask for an opportunity to personally meet and talk to Jean-Claude Juncker,” he said.
Some three quarters of the 23 mayors of cities with county seat status signed the petition against EU migrant quotas, he added.
