Lottery Company Szerencsejatek Revenues Record High
(MTI) – Hungary’s state lottery company Szerencsejatek increased its revenues by an all-time record high of 36 billion forints (EUR 114m) or 32 percent in the first half of this year compared to the same period of last year, National Development Minister Miklos Sesztak said on Monday.
From the company’s total revenue of 148 billion forints it contributed 35.4 billion forints to the budget, over 21 percent more than in the same period of last year. After-tax profits were 8.617 billion forints in the first half of this year or 55 percent up from the same period of last year.
Sesztak said that Szerencsejatek has become one of the ten largest taxpayers.
Four years ago, the government set the goal to disprove the stereotype that a state-run company cannot operate as profitably as a private one. The state lottery company is proof that state firms operating in a well-balanced and successful way can be competitive and considerably contribute to the central budget, the minister said.
