Visit the Kiskunság National Park
The Danube-Tisza Interfluve Region is full of natural beauties to be explored by foreign visitors. The tourist and study trails give you and your family an opportunity to get a unique experience of this area that also inspired Sándor Petőfi, the great Hungarian poet.
“Méneseknek nyargaló futása
Zúg a szélben, körmeik dobognak,
S a csikósok kurjantása hallik
S pattogása hangos ostoroknak.”
(Petőfi Sándor: Az Alföld, 1844)“Studs’ racing scud
Is humming in the wind, and the throbbing of their hooves
Is heard, and herdsmen’s call,
And the cracking of loud whips.”
(Author’s loose translation)
The Kiskunság National Park Management Centre is responsible for 284.165 acres of land which mostly belongs to nine distinctive areas. The most well-known of these territories are the Upper-Kiskunság Plain, the Fülöpháza Sand Dunes, Bugac and Lake Kolon near Izsák. (Read more: Kiskunság National Park Tourist Guide)
The park has several tourist and study trails, as well as many guided tours advertised on their Hungarian website.
Being shorter (2.5 – 3 km), the study trails of the park are excellent for families with children which makes them an ideal family trip destination in the Great Hungarian Plain.
The Hungarian Edition of National Geographic Magazine also published an outstanding article about this region in June 2011. According to Ng.hu, the country between the river Danube and Tisza has evolved as a result of the co-existence of men and nature through hundreds of years. While this land was characterised by swampy areas and steppes in ancient times, its current state has been formed and changed by the people who had moved to this territory.
