A look at Brentford’s next four Premier League games

We knew Brentford would be without their talisman Ivan Toney for the first half of the 2023-24 Premier League season, as the England international is currently serving a ban for breaching the Football Association’s betting rules.
The general consensus was that the Bees would be able to cope without the 27-year-old forward leading the line. However, Thomas Frank’s men have been subpar and are deep in the bottom half of the table after the first nine games of the season.
A 3-0 win over Burnley last weekend was crucial, but Brentford have a very difficult run of games coming up.
It starts with a trip to Chelsea on Saturday and continues throughout November, as they host cross-city rivals West Ham United and Arsenal at the Brentford Community Stadium, either side of facing Liverpool at Anfield.
That said, let’s take a look at the Bees’ upcoming games and assess their chances of picking up crucial points.
Chelsea – Stamford Bridge – October 28
Frank’s men are the massive underdogs ahead of this tie if you’re looking for a Chelsea v Brentford bet, but the Bees have a very good record on their recent travels to Stamford Bridge.
They stunned Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea with a 4-1 win at the Bridge back in April 2022, which was their first season back in the top flight for 74 years, and a 2-0 win here back in April marked a fifth consecutive defeat at home for Frank Lampard’s men.
Chelsea appear to be over the worst of their bad start to the season, however, with three wins in a row before the recent international break and a draw against Arsenal last weekend.
Comparing the form, it’s a struggle to see how Brentford are going to get anything from this game.
West Ham United – Brentford Community Stadium – November 4
West Ham have been one of the surprise outfits in the early stages of this season. Many felt their Europa Conference League success merely papered the cracks and that the loss of Declan Rice was going to make life very difficult for them this campaign.
However, the Hammers have started the season well and are currently ninth, having won four, drawn two and lost three.
But, Brentford have a good record at home against West Ham in the Premier League. The Bees won 2-0 in West London toward the end of the 2021-22 campaign, and it was a repeat of that scoreline when they met back in May.
Liverpool – Anfield – November 25
Liverpool’s form was resurrected last week, as Jurgen Klopp’s men beat local rivals Everton in the first Merseyside derby of the season at Anfield, to put a run of two Premier League games without a win to bed.
Brentford haven’t won at Anfield since they returned to the top flight. They lost 3-0 here in January 2022, but it was closer on their last visit back in May as Mohamed Salah’s early goal was the difference in the 1-0 defeat.
Liverpool haven’t lost a league game in a very long time, and that looks unlikely to change here.
Arsenal – Brentford Community Stadium – November 25
When you think of these two sides, one game instantly springs to mind – Brentford’s 2-0 win over the Gunners at the Brentford Community Stadium in their first top-flight game in over seven decades on gameweek one of the 2021-22 Premier League season.
However, the Gunners are a different kettle of fish these days and Brentford haven’t beaten their cross-city rivals competitively since.
Arsenal have won their last two visits here 3-0 and 1-0 and you’d expect Mikel Arteta’s side to make it a third win in succession here.
