Press release – Implementation of an additional 1000 new parking spaces has commenced by Budapest Airport. From the summer onwards, drivers may also use the new facility on the former location of the aircraft museum. After handing over the new car park, Budapest Airport will be offering no less than 4700 new spaces in various categories of parking.
Heavy machines including excavators are working again in the direct vicinity of the security fence of the airport, refilling the huge pit on the former site of the aircraft museum in preparation for the implementation of one thousand new Holiday Parking spaces in the proximity of Terminal 2. The usual enhanced security conditions will be provided in the asphalted car park: for the whole duration of summer holidays lasting one or two weeks, parked vehicles will be protected by the CCTV system that also checks entry and exit through the existing barriers.
The project with a price tag of approximately 3 million EUR, that is, almost 1 billion HUF, is part of BUD 2020, the five-year airport development program of Budapest Airport, in the course of which EUR 160 million (about 50 billion HUF) will be spent on upgrading Ferenc Liszt International Airport. The new car park that may already be used by drivers in the summer will be linked with the existing covered walkways leading to the Terminal via another 150-meter-long covered walkway. The purpose of the covered walkways is to protect drivers and passengers from rain and to offer some shade in the summer heat.
