Almost 1.5 million Hungarians live in the USA, but there is a twist
Based on the latest census in the USA, more than 1.4 million citizens are Hungarians or of Hungarian origins. The President of the Hungarian American Coalition talked about the numbers in a public media program.
According to portfolio.hu, Andrea Lauer Rice told M1 that American Hungarians have more than 100 organizations, 78 churches, 33 schools, 25 scout teams, 12 Hungarian houses, multiple museums and libraries. She added that there was a Hungarian community in almost all states.
Andrea Lauer Rice said that out of the 1.4 million Hungarians or citizens of Hungarian origins, 1 million do not speak the language. They are second, third or fourth-generation Hungarians. However, they know about their ancestors, and the Hungarian American Coalition regards it as their task to help them preserve their Hungarian heritage and include them in the Hungarian communities despite the language barrier.
