Ambassador Pressman: an anti-American attack has been launched from above in Hungary
The United States Ambassador to Budapest, David Pressman said that Orbán’s identification of the United States as an adversary of Hungary is a cause for concern. He says Republicans also frown on Orbán’s Russian friendship.
The United States Ambassador to Hungary said that the anti-American rhetoric of Orbán is unprecedented from an ally country. David Pressman said that Viktor Orbán’s identification of the United States as Hungary’s adversary at the beginning of March is worrying, Népszava reports. The news portal accompanied the ambassador on his visit to Szeged last Tuesday.
David Pressman said that he believes that US-Hungarian relations can be improved. At the same time, the ambassador left no doubt as to which side should change its behaviour in order to achieve this, Népszava writes. Pressman criticised the Orbán government for not distancing itself from Russia despite the war.
According to him, there is bipartisan agreement and a complete consensus in national security circles on concerns about this, and some members of the opposition Republican Party have even tougher positions on the Hungarian leadership.
Fidesz is vainly hoping that the outcome of next year’s US presidential election will bring a turnaround in bilateral relations, Pressman noted.
The ambassador told the paper that he does not take the smear campaign against him in the pro-Fidesz Hungarian press personally. Rather, he considers them as a top-down attack against his country.
During his trip to Szeged, Pressman held talks with Szeged Mayor László Botka, and in a café with a representative of an unnamed LGBTQI+ rights organisation.

Pressman and the US are acting like bully children. Since when has the US the right to tell Hungary with whom should the country talk to or trade or buy goods from? The US action is tantamount to one child telling other children do not talk to that child because I am mad at that child.
If the US had any respect for Hungary, it would have sent a “diplomat” not a child in diapers.

marievontheresa – if comments contributed where those of a FRANCHISED member supporter of Orban & Fidesz, the contributions in commentaries made, would NOT be as characterized by assertiveness and dogmatism as to the Political Party this commentator marievontheresa see’s no WRONG – leading taking Hungary into a GLORIOUS & prosperous FUTURE.

One can agree or disagree with the U.S. just like with any other country, but the way to disagree does matter a lot. The gang in power in Orbánistan has no slightest clue about basic diplomacy nor etiquette, not to speak of the fact that their bullish attitude does not go together with the international insignificance of their tiny Pannonian feud. Orbán&co.’s inflated ego, arrogance, bullism is way too big for their little boots.
Yes, Orban government does deserve support. This is the first time when Hungary is governed by a pro Hungarian government. Hope, this government will do wonderful things for the people, starting by raising the standard of living. Best thing for this country to reach neutrality and stop taking sides. Hungary’s only goal should be enacting laws that benefit the people.
