Another famous American restaurant chain is coming to Budapest!

While Wendy’s is still searching for partners in Hungary, another popular American restaurant chain has already announced its arrival. Fusion Group Zrt. has signed an exclusive agreement with Popeyes® to introduce the brand to Hungary. Originating from New Orleans and world-renowned for its irresistibly delicious chicken, Popeyes will make its Hungarian debut this autumn with its very first restaurant opening in Budapest.
Bold flavours, irresistible chicken
Popeyes brings bold Cajun flavours to Hungary’s culinary scene. Its iconic chicken sandwich, introduced in 2019, has been hailed as one of the most successful quick-service restaurant launches in the U.S. The sandwich sparked a cult following, and long lines of fans can be seen at every new opening around the world.
The announcement marks another milestone in Popeyes’ dynamic European expansion. The brand has already entered markets including Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Romania, France, the Czech Republic, and Italy.
At the heart of Popeyes’ legacy are perfectly crafted chicken dishes and a uniquely joyful guest experience. The chain carefully selects every ingredient for its freshly prepared meals: chicken is marinated for 12 hours in a signature Cajun spice blend, hand-breaded, and slow-cooked to crispy perfection in a custom-made fryer.
A celebration straight from New Orleans
Dining at Popeyes always feels like a celebration: colourful, relaxed, and fun, just like its birthplace, New Orleans. The brand’s bold and modern identity reflects the city’s energy, music, art, and zest for life.
The Hungarian launch will be carried out by Fusion-BP Restaurants Kft., a subsidiary of Fusion Group Zrt., which was founded in 1990 and has over 35 years of experience in hospitality.
“We are proud to bring such an iconic brand to the Hungarian market, one that is growing rapidly both worldwide and in Europe. The Budapest restaurant opening this autumn marks the beginning of Popeyes’ story in Hungary. We believe the brand will quickly win the hearts of locals, and soon people across the country will get to enjoy the unique world of Popeyes. Our enthusiastic team can’t wait to create unforgettable moments for our guests. We recommend preparing for lines, because we are confident that Popeyes chicken will be just as successful here as it is around the world,” said László Sümegi, Managing Director of Fusion-BP Restaurants Kft.
Louisiana-style chicken for Hungarian guests
“We are delighted to continue Popeyes’ European expansion and to bring our iconic Louisiana-style chicken to guests in Hungary. With its unique New Orleans heritage, bold flavors, and distinctive dining experience, Popeyes has earned worldwide recognition. Our partnership with the experienced The Fusion Group Zrt. reassures us that Popeyes will soon become a new favorite among Hungarian guests,” added Renato Rossi, President of RBI EMEA, the parent company of Popeyes.
With this opening, Popeyes takes another step in making its exciting Cajun flavours and the authentic Popeyes experience available to more guests across Europe.

POPEYE’S in Budapest ? ! Glory be ! Hála istennek ! Praise the Lord !
Mind you, what KFC dishes out in Szombathely is an abomination, az utálatosság. Will POPEYE’S be able to work its magic here ? KFC can’t. So . . . fingers crossed.
I wonder how “biscuits” will be translated . . .
Alex, I’m afraid that KFC has turned into an abomination everywhere, not only in Hungary. Although I suspect it’ll remain your only fried chicken purveyor in Szombathely for the foreseeable future.
