Another busy Hungarian railway line collapsed today – passengers to and from Vienna are in trouble

The railway line connecting the Hungarian capital with Austria collapsed today due to a malfunction in the signalling system.

Another busy Hungarian railway line collapsed: for the 4th time in a week

According to 444.hu, passengers should expect longer travel times, shorter routes, and replacement buses on the railway line connecting Budapest with Vienna. This is due to a malfunction in the signalling system in Tata, halfway between Budapest and Győr. According to a public transport expert and Budapest councillor, as well as former Fidesz-backed Budapest mayoral candidate Dávid Vitézy, this is the fourth time the line has collapsed in just one week.

Passenger train S10 will run between Budapest Déli railway station and Tatabánya and between Tata and Győr. As a result, passengers must take replacement buses between Tata and Tatabánya. The buses will wait for them in front of the train stations.

Minister blames 1-year-old party

InterCity, EuroCity trains, and Railjets will stop at Tatabánya, Vértesszőlős, Tóvároskert, and Tata. Passengers will not need to buy seat reservations until ordinary operation resumes.

On another railway line between Miskolc and Nyíregyháza in Eastern Hungary, passengers should also expect longer travel times and shorter routes. Commuters on passenger trains may have to use replacement buses because another signalling system malfunction occurred between Mezőzombor and Tarcal.

Hungarian railway delays

We wrote earlier that a recurring technical fault involving the level crossing systems between Érd and Tárnok collapsed the Budapest-Balaton line during the Pentecost long weekend. The government blamed Siemens at that time.

Transport and Construction Minister János Lázár said in a recent Facebook post that Péter Magyar’s Tisza party is responsible for the delayed maintenance work on the Hungarian railway system. Orbán’s Fidesz has been governing Hungary for 15 years. Magyar was the husband of former Justice Minister Judit Varga, who was a member of Fidesz until last February. He became a party leader a bit more than one year ago. He has been leading the polls for months, and his advantage is growing. Read more about that in THIS article.
