Another famous Hungarian traditional restaurant is closing
Due to the utility crisis, the Korona restaurant in Makó had to close. However, not permanently: they will reopen in May.
The Korona Restaurant is ceasing its usual operation
The Korona Restaurant is located in downtown Makó, on Széchenyi Square. Although many guests go to the restaurant to enjoy the food, it also serves as an event venue. However, now on the glass of the front door, information in Hungarian and English informs guests: due to the increase in overhead costs, the economic operation of the restaurant is proving to be an impossible task in the current period, therefore the Korona restaurant will cease its usual operation, writes delmagyar.hu. But previously announced events will be held and the restaurant will continue to organise new ones. The reopening is planned for May.
The Korona was once the most elegant hotel in Makó
The Korona was once the most elegant hotel in the city, and the restaurant on the ground floor of the complex was originally part of it. In this capacity, it closed in 1992; the city municipality bought it and then renovated it in 2005. There is an event hall on the first floor, the former guest rooms were converted into offices and meeting rooms. The city tried to rent out the restaurant part on its own, which was sometimes temporarily successful. The 826-square-meter restaurant part of Korona reopened in 2019, after a 5-year break. The restaurant was rented out for five years by a company based in the capital and remodeled. It became a cozy, Mediterranean-style restaurant, it started with a staff of 20 people.
The restaurant had to close due to the utility crisis
According to the restaurant manager, Ferenc Budai, the restaurant had to close due to the price of electricity and gas. “The huge increase in the price of basic food also played a role. These extra costs cannot be passed on to the consumers, as this would already exceed the limit of the psychological price”, he added. He also said that the reopening in May is planned with a slightly revised concept. The restaurant was operating with minimal staff even before the suspension. The people are currently employed in other catering units of the company, and will be counted on again from May.

Mm-hmm: They can’t afford to run it. But the “opposition,” U.S. ambassador, the Holy E.U., and their fellow travelers want us to get involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict even more, thus aggravating our economic situation much further. No way, Jose!
