Popular bath at Lake Balaton will reopen after almost 5 years of hiatus

One of the best-known wellness facilities on Hungary’s Lake Balaton is preparing to reopen its doors after nearly five years. The Galerius Bath in Siófok is set to welcome visitors again on 1 April 2026 at 9 AM, just ahead of the Easter long weekend.

The bath complex closed in July 2021 after serious structural problems were discovered. Initially, only defects in the roof structure were suspected. However, further inspections revealed additional design and construction shortcomings throughout the building, making minor repairs impossible.

A full-scale reconstruction for one of Lake Balaton’s most important baths

According to 24.hu, as a result, the spa — originally opened in 2006 — required a near-complete reconstruction. The renovation project, which began in autumn 2024, cost close to HUF 2 billion (about EUR 5 million). The city of Siófok financed the investment partly through grants and partly from its own resources and loans. During the works, several key systems were modernised, including water engineering and ventilation equipment. Some of the spa’s services were also upgraded as part of the redevelopment.

Can a secret NASA bunker be beneath Lake Balaton? Armed guards, luxury suites and the legend of a 65,000-person underground city. Or have you heard that Lake Balaton might be in serious trouble, with a possible summer catastrophe ahead? This has not happened since 1921.

Year-round bathing returns to the region of Lake Balaton

The reopening is particularly significant for the Lake Balaton area, where year-round bathing opportunities are limited. The Galerius Bath offers indoor pools and thermal water facilities that can be enjoyed regardless of the weather. The thermal water used in the pools will continue to be transported from Nagyberény, a settlement about 18 kilometres from Siófok.

Ticket prices will vary depending on the season. According to a December article by termalonline.hu, in peak summer months, a standard adult ticket is expected to cost HUF 7,200, while for students and pensioners, it will be HUF 5800, and HUF 3600 for children. There will also be off-season admissions, HUF 6000 for adults, HUF 4800 for students and pensioners, and HUF 3000 for children, and locals receive a 25% discount by default, with discounts for every guest in the days after the reopening.
