As femcafe.hu suggests, it is never too early to start summer! Since this May brought the good weather early, here are five suggestions of Hungarian lakes close to the capital to help you cool off.
1. Domony Valley, D-Beach
This unique beach gives the feeling of being near the sea with its sandy shores while being a mere 40 kilometres away from Budapest. In addition, apart from the cooling water, the numerous types of water entertainment and the soft sand, the marvellous surroundings also make Domony Valley worth a visit.
2. Lupa Lake, Budakalász
This truly sea-like beach is only about 20 minutes away from Budapest. The white, sandy shores are excellent destinations for those wanting to relax as well as for extreme sports lovers.
3. Palatinus Lake, Dorog
Palatinus Lake of the Dorog Basin is a little further away, in Esztergom. However, as the clearest lake in Hungary, it is definitely worth visiting. It is a great spot to go fishing or even scuba diving! Nevertheless, if you prefer to stay dry, you can lay on the sandy beach sunbathing or play beach volleyball.
4. Gyömrő Lake, Gyömrő
Gyömrő Lake is situated in the centre of Gyömrő, where once a brick factory stood, yet it is surrounded by woods now. It is the perfect place to cool off, enjoy Hungarian specialities at the buffets or even try out water sports like wakeboarding or water skiing.
5. Rukkel Lake, Dunavarsány
Once a mining lake, Rukkel Lake is by now a true waterpark from Paradise. Everything can be found here for the perfect weekend getaway, from several sports activities through renting kayaks, canoes or paddle boats to enjoying Hungarian delicacies like lángos (a sort of deep-fried dough) or crepes. Everybody is bound to find the perfect activity for themselves.
Whichever of these beautiful destinations you choose, you are guaranteed to have a great time!
