Big change in Hungary’s weather this week. Here’s what to know

Change language:

A marked change in the weather is on the way, as this week will bring an end to the unusually warm autumn conditions. Many areas can expect rain, with brisk to strong winds, and a notable drop in temperatures. By the weekend, rainfall will become less likely, but daytime highs will only reach around 20°C, according to the forecast from HungaroMet Zrt., released on Sunday via MTI.

Changeable conditions in the first half of the week

On Monday, the weather will be mostly clear, with only a few high clouds. Southerly and south-easterly winds will be fresh in many places, occasionally strong. Maximum temperatures will generally be around 30°C.

On Tuesday, cloud cover will increase significantly from the west and northwest, bringing increasingly cloudy and wet conditions in those areas, while further east the weather will remain mostly sunny, with some high cloud and dry spells. Winds will shift from the south to north and north-east, picking up in strength, particularly in the Zemplén region. Morning temperatures will mostly range from 12–18°C, but colder spots may see lower values. Afternoon highs will usually be between 26–32°C, though in the cloudier western and north-western areas the maximum may remain below 20°C.

Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with some brighter intervals. Scattered showers, occasional longer spells of rain and even thunderstorms are possible, with the heaviest rainfall expected in the west. Winds turning from the east may freshen across much of the country, becoming strong at times east of the Danube. Temperatures will range from 11–19°C at dawn and 15–27°C in the afternoon, cooler in the west, north and north-east, warmer in the south-east.
