BKK’s new e-tickets are already being tested

Employees of BKK (Centre for Budapest Transportation) have already received their electronic tickets, and the system is already being tested, writes travelo.hu.

The first test run measures if the required softwares and the production lines work well. Hundreds of employees have received their e-tickets so far, and the online website will soon be launched, where all the information regarding the electronic tickets will be available, along with regular updates about the system.

BKK is also working on central hardware- and software systems, on data linking, and on the transaction processing system, together with Scheidt&Bachmann. Similarly to the FUTÁR (Traffic Management and Passenger Information) system, ticket validating devices have to be installed to more than 2500 vehicles. The metro and the HÉV suburban railway system will be linked to the electronic ticket system by December 2017.

BKK said that the basis of the e-ticket is the central accounting system, which registers the e-tickets and the purchases, carries out the computation and the financial accounting. The metro- and several HÉV stations will have automatic gates, and ticket inspectors will have portable devices.

Traditional paper tickets will be replaced by plastic cards with built in chips, and passengers can choose between personalized or anonym cards. Personalized cards will have the person’s name and photo on them, meaning that only the owner will be able to use it. Anonym cards will only have identification numbers, so more than one person can use them, but the issued balance (it depends on how much money the owner transfers to the card), can only be used to buy certain tickets.
