Body scanner in the parliament

According to mno.hu, a body scanner will be used in the Parliament for a couple of weeks, but the screening is voluntary, the National Assembly’s Press Office told.

Ágnes Vadai (Democratic Coalition, DK) asked the Speaker of the House why the parliamentary guards began to use the body scanner. According to DK, the newsletter sent to the MPs did not reveal anything about the reasons and the targets of the checks by this device.

The National Assembly’s Press Office said the body scanner will be tested on a pilot basis from Tuesday on, for a few weeks, and the screening is voluntary. The machine makes a phantom image about the entering person.

The press office added that the scanner is harmless, it uses electromagnetic waves. The device meets all relevant Hungarian and EU regulations.

During scanning the device makes a phantom image about the body which shows non-metallic and tight-fitting materials as well, mno.hu wrote.

Previously, the machine was used at the Liszt Ferenc International Airport, and it will help the work of the Parliamentary Guards for a couple of weeks who thereby will learn about the latest technology.
