Summer changes in Budapest’s transport system to look out for

According to szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu, several changes can be expected in the capital city’s transport system during the summer. The most prominent is probably the fact that between the 16th of June and the 2nd of September, replacement buses will circulate on the line of tram 4 and 6.

Based on the information shared by the Centre for Budapest Transport (BKK), the tram rails between the stations of Harmickettesek tere and Oktogon will be replaced with a more modern track network, which will facilitate maintenance works in the long-run.

The trams will continue to circulate between Széll Kálmán Square and Oktogon, and also between the Southern Buda stops and Harminckettesek tere.

For the sake of the undisturbed circulation of replacement buses, a separate bus lane was created between Oktogon and Pál Street. Hence cars can only use one lane for the same period.

Moreover, further temporary reconstruction works can be expected along the tram line.

Between the 10th of July and the 5th of August, the Liberty Bridge will be closed off for over four weekends.

Metro line 3 has been substituted by replacement buses between Lehel Square and Újpest for a few months now, but in the summer, the whole line will be closed off on weekends.

The transport around Batthyány Square and along the quay has already been modified due to the upcoming Red Bull Air Race.

Furthermore, the summer renovation of tram line 1 between Puskás Ferenc Stadium and Közvágóhíd is going to start soon.

Lastly, suburban railway H9 only circulates until the Cinkota station between the 16th and 22nd of June due to maintenance works, as well.
