Renewed Budapest – You can visit these architectural projects in early 2022
2021 was the year of investments. The result can be seen in 2022, when many of the buildings will open to welcome visitors.
The Hungarian House of Music is a prime example of the city’s newly built architectural masterpieces. The new Hungarian music hall serves three functions. It will be the place of education, knowledge sharing as well as concerts and music, as we reported in a former article. The building marks the work of Sou Fujimoto, one of the most acknowledged Japanese architects. The building will open on 22 January.
The reconstruction of the Opera House started five years ago and will finish in the spring. Designed by Miklós Ybl, the neo-renaissance building is one of the most stunning opera houses in the world. It was 2017 when the modernisation of the internal space began.
Two redesigned hotels will open in the future. Drechsler Palace opposite the Opera House will be turned into a five-star luxury hotel. Haggenmacher Palace will also be transformed into a luxury hotel by the new owner.

The Ethnographic Museum will possibly open in the spring. The design marks the work of a Hungarian studio, Napur Architect. The building will be adorned by 20 Hungarian and 20 foreign folk motives. The roof garden will house various plants.
The Castle has been under construction as well, but the works will likely not be completed by the end of the year. The reconstruction of the Palace of Archduke Joseph at Szent György Square is also work-in-progress.
Corvin Department Store (Corvin Áruház) is a fascinating architectural sight as well. Built between 1926 and 1929, the neo-renaissance department store used to be very popular back in the day. The first escalator in Hungary could be found in this building.
The list of renovation, reconstructions, renewals, investments and improvements goes on. Just to name a few more, Műcsarnok, the Buda Post Palace (Budai Postapalota), the passenger center at Keleti Railway Station, Blaha Lujza square, Róheim villa and Sipeki-Balás villa will all be renewed. Renovations and improvements will also benefit the seven – storey tower building of the Kútvölgy block of Szent János Hospital and Clinic of Cardiovascular Medicine in Városmajor (Városmajori Szív- és Érgyógyászati Klinika). – writes pestbuda.hu.
