BREAKING: Explosion at a family house, one policeman died in Hungary
On Wednesday evening, a massive explosion shook the outskirts of Esztergom. The police and the fire brigade responded in force to a threat and a Hungarian policeman was killed in action.
M1 reports that a disturbed man started making bomb threats in the morning in Hungary. In accordance with official procedures, the Counter-Terrorism Centre units were alerted.
The hostage negotiator, who arrived with the eradication unit, tried in vain to persuade the increasingly aggressive man, but his effort went unsuccessful. He detonated a gas cylinder or cylinders, killing a policeman, presumably a counter-terrorist. Six people were injured, 444.hu reports.
In addition to the policeman, the perpetrator was also killed, and multiple ambulances left the scene with casualties. Several wards of the Esztergom hospital were evacuated to receive the injured.
The area around the explosion has been hermetically sealed off by the police, and bomb investigators from the Civil Protection and TEK are searching the bomber’s property. Interior Minister Sándor Pintér is also on the scene. According to people living in the area, the bomber lived alone and had a history of disturbed behaviour, regularly calling the police. An investigation has been launched into a qualified case of violence against a public official, and the Central Investigating Prosecutor’s Office has promised to provide information later.
The Central Investigative Prosecutor’s Office (CIPO) issued a statement on Wednesday night, stating that a wanted man had deliberately caused a gas explosion during a criminal operation, according to preliminary information.
Based on the available information, it can be concluded that there was no police misconduct in the case, the KNYF said, adding that more detailed information on the case will be provided after the primary investigative actions are completed, probably on Friday, “until then, the patience of the press and the public” is requested.
