Brutal rental rise in Budapest and other university cities

Average rental rates in Budapest rose 18pc year-on year to HUF 274,000 per month (EUR 701), listed real estate broker Duna House said on Tuesday.

Rental rates in the capital were the highest in the leafy District II at HUF 485,000, and the central District V and District I at HUF 433,000 and HUF 366,000, respectively. The lowest rental rates were registered in District X at HUF 191,000 and District XV at HUF 192,000.

In other university cities, monthly rental rates increased 6pc year-on year to HUF 192,000. The most expensive cities are Debrecen with an average rental rate of HUF 269,000, followed by Győr with HUF 228,000, while Veszprém and Miskolc are more affordable, with rental rates averaging HUF 137,000 and HUF 167,000, respectively.

The difference between rental rates in Budapest and other cities increased to HUF 82,000 from HUF 50,000 last year, Duna House said.
