Outrageous: 150 passengers ‘held captive’ at Budapest Airport!
The passengers of the Sun Express had to wait almost one day for their flight from Antalya at Budapest Airport. Meanwhile, they got lots in false information, not enough food and drink. The company gave them vouchers, but the only place they were valid closed an hour after voucher distribution. The passengers got angry, even the police had to intervene.
No food and drink for the passengers
According to Utazómajom, a Hungarian travel news media outlet, Sun Express’s 11.34 AM Friday flight from Budapest to Antalya did not take off due to technical problems. The airport postponed the take-off several times yesterday.
The crowd did not get food or drink until 4 PM when they received a croissant, water and chips. The airline could not tell them when their flight would depart but distributed food and drink vouchers only at 7.30 PM. The voucher was valid only at one shop in the Airport’s food court, which closed at 9 PM.
According to the report of Utazómajom’s reader, Dorothy, there were pregnant women, old people, kids and even babies among the passengers. Some even struggled with diabetes or should have taken meds put in their luggage.
Passengers waited for 19 hours at Budapest Airport
Sun Express could not tell them when their flight would take off, and there were lots of fake news concerning their departure. Some people got angry, so even the police had to intervene.
The international protocol says that authorities cannot let passengers leave the transit area. However, officially, their flight is not cancelled.
Finally, the plane left Budapest at 6 AM today and arrived in Antalya at 8.53 AM. Authorities let passengers out from the transit area between 11.25 PM and 4.30 AM.
