Dates set at Budapest Airport for when upgrade, rapid rail line to the city centre will be completed

Upgrades at Budapest Airport as well as a rapid rail line connecting the airport to the city centre could be in use by 2031, Ferenc Antal, the deputy state secretary for strategic transactions, told public television on Tuesday.

Antal said the EUR 1bn investment project at Budapest Airport would finish in 2034-3035, but some services could be available already in 2031.

Ground was broken at the airport in February for a 35,000sqm terminal, a 15,000sqm passenger pier and 132,000sqm of expanded apron areas, the Hungarian News Agency wrote.

Antal said annual passenger numbers at the airport were set to reach 25 million by the end of the decade, “according to conservative estimates”, but could reach 40 million after the airport upgrades are completed.
