Heading to Budapest for the 2026 Champions League final? Here’s how the city plans to move tens of thousands of fans

As football fans across Europe prepare for the 2026 UEFA Champions League final, the host city of Budapest is already planning how to move tens of thousands of supporters smoothly across the Hungarian capital.

Champions League final to take place in Budapest

The decisive match will take place at the iconic Puskás Aréna on 30 May 2026, one of Europe’s newest and largest football venues. With large numbers of international visitors expected, city officials say efficient public transport will be key to the event’s success.

Public transport to play central role

According to Dávid Vitézy, member of the Budapest General Assembly and leader of the Podmaniczky Movement faction, the capital faces a significant logistical challenge in hosting the prestigious match.

In a video shared on social media, Vitézy stressed that most spectators will need to reach the stadium using public transport rather than private cars.

Large-scale events and concerts around the stadium already rely heavily on the city’s metro and tram network, but additional measures are being planned to handle the influx of international fans.

More frequent metro and tram services

Transport planners are currently focusing on two main measures for match day:

  • The Budapest Metro Line 2 and Budapest Metro Line 4 will run more frequently in the hours before and after the match.
  • The Tram Line 1, which circles much of the city and connects to several metro lines, will also operate with an intensified schedule.

These routes are among the most important links to the stadium and surrounding areas.

Match tickets may include public transport

Another idea currently under discussion is integrating public transport into match tickets. Organisers are working to ensure that fans attending the Champions League final can use Budapest’s public transport network with their valid match ticket.

If implemented, this would simplify travel for international visitors who may be unfamiliar with the local ticketing system.

Budapest preparing to welcome Europe

Vitézy emphasised that the event represents a major moment for the Hungarian capital on the European stage.

“Budapest must prove itself before Europe,” he said, adding that the goal is to ensure smooth transport, a well-functioning system, and a worthy welcome for visiting fans.

Preparations are now underway months in advance: the city hopes that supporters arriving for the Champions League final will experience not only world-class football but also efficient travel across one of Central Europe’s most popular destinations.

  1. From my experience, the first thing to consider when choosing an online gaming club in Canada is the platform’s reputation and usability. I recently explored Rooli Casino, and I found the interface simple and intuitive, which makes navigation easy even for beginners. Mobile performance is also strong, which is important since many players prefer gaming on the go. In Canada, users often highlight smooth performance and responsive support as key factors for a positive experience..
