Budapest hotel among the world’s best
Condé Nast Traveller’s Gold list included a Hungarian hotel. The place was chosen by the magazine’s global editors, who are based in seven cities across three continents.
According to their website, the editors “share their favourite places to stay and cruises to take.” They wrote that Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace located near Budapest’s iconic Chain Bridge, has 179 rooms and it is the capital’s grandest hotel. It was built in 1906 in the style of Secessionism (Central Europe’s take on Art Nouveau).
An exceptional renovation took place in the hotel, including “chandeliers and stained glass repaired and cleaned, mosaic tiles scrubbed, white stucco repainted.”
The building was originally the Hungarian headquarters of Sir Thomas Gresham’s insurance company.
“As joint capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1873 to 1918, Budapest was one of the liveliest, most cultured, and most prosperous cities in Europe; that golden era saw the construction of grand boulevards and numerous splendid buildings. The meticulous renovation of Gresham Palace, which opened as a Four Seasons in 2006, set the bar high for the numerous other restoration jobs currently underway”, Condé Nast Traveller wrote.
In the 179 rooms of the hotel, we can expect parquet floors, a palette of pale greys, and an excellent bed. The view from most windows is marvellous. You look at the Chain Bridge, the Buda Castle, the castle funicular and the Danube.
Hotel Gresham Budapest among the world’s 75 best hotels
The editors of the magazine praise food and drink in the hotel. They wrote that Kollázs brasserie provides the hotel with warmth, Belle Epoque is a fun place for breakfast, especially with a table on the streetside terrace. Furthermore, they said that the unfamiliar Hungarian wines also provide a revelation, but in a good way.
A global mix of people stay in the hotel. For example, Hollywood stars shooting movies in Hungary regularly stay here since Budapest is one of the favourite European places of the American movie empire.
Condé Nast praises Budapest’s thermal baths and says visiting Budapest is worth it. There is plenty to see and do, and Gresham Hotel is a central place to start exploring the city.
The magazine compiled the Gold list of the best hotels for the 30th time. 75 hotels are on the list their editors put the list together with hundreds of hours of work and serious debates, turizmus.com wrote.
The list has London’s Claridge’s and Indonesia’s Bawah Reserve or the Irish Cashel Palace, Tipperary. Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace has been selected for the second time. The hotel first appeared on the list in 2020.
