Attention: Budapest public transport schedules change during the festive period!

The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) has introduced, and will continue to introduce, changes to public transport services during the Christmas holiday period and on New Year’s Eve to reflect altered passenger demand.

According to BKK’s earlier information, on 24 December, services operated according to the Saturday timetable during the day.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day schedules

On 25 and 26 December, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, as well as on 1 January, daytime services will operate according to public holiday timetables. Due to lower passenger numbers at the airport on 25 December, the 100E airport bus will operate with reduced frequency, according to MTI.

Between the two holidays

Between 29 and 31 December, changes in passenger demand and typically lighter road traffic will result in year-end timetables being introduced on metro lines and on many tram, trolleybus and bus services. Most routes will operate according to school holiday weekday schedules, while services on routes 33A and 10 will be suspended.

New Year’s Eve

On the night of 31 December, several high-capacity services will operate throughout the night, including all metro lines, all HÉV lines, trams 4 and 6 on the Grand Boulevard, as well as lines 14, 17, 47, 50 and 56A, trolleybuses 75 and 80, and bus lines 5, 7, 8E, 16 and 223E. According to MÁV, HÉV services will run all night on every line.

Within the night bus network, several routes will operate on altered timetables to connect with metro and tram services. Meanwhile, airport bus services 100E and 200E will continue to operate according to their regular schedules.

BKK advises passengers not to rely on habitual travel routines during the holidays and recommends using the BudapestGO app to plan holiday journeys.

Parking fees

BKK also highlighted that, from this year onwards, on-street parking is subject to fees on working days between Christmas and New Year. This means parking charges will apply on 29, 30 and 31 December, which fall on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
