Plan ahead: Budapest public transport on revised schedule during Easter holiday

Public transport in Budapest will operate on altered timetables during the Easter long weekend and the spring school holiday, according to the city’s transport authority. Passengers are advised not to rely on their usual routines, as services will follow a mix of school holiday, weekend and public holiday schedules.
Budapest public transport operates with holiday schedule
The spring break runs from 2 to 12 April. During this period, Budapest public transport services will operate on school holiday timetables on weekdays, while public holiday and rest-day schedules will apply on specific dates, including Good Friday and Easter Sunday and Monday. Saturdays and Sundays will follow their usual weekend timetables.

Extended metro services
To accommodate increased passenger demand over the festive period, metro lines M2, M3 and M4 will run with extended operating hours. In addition to the usual Friday and Saturday night extensions, services will also run later on Easter Sunday night, providing greater flexibility for late journeys, writes Budapest public transport operator BKK.
Processions to cause temporary delays
Travellers should also expect minor disruptions due to Easter processions taking place across the capital. Road restrictions will be introduced at several locations on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, potentially affecting bus services. While delays are expected to be relatively short, typically only a few minutes, passengers using affected routes may experience temporary stops or diversions.
Most crowded affected areas
On Saturday evening, brief disruptions are anticipated in locations such as Kós Károly Square in Kispest and the junction of Király Street and Nagymező Street. Changes to boarding points will also apply in certain areas. On Easter Sunday morning, similar delays are expected in Pasarét, along Szentendrei Road, and in parts of District XVIII and Kelenvölgy.
Plan ahead
Authorities recommend checking updated timetables in advance and allowing extra travel time. With a combination of holiday schedules and local restrictions in place, careful planning will help passengers avoid unnecessary inconvenience during the Easter period.
