Budapest’s biggest open-air concert venue opens the season
On April 28 Budapest Park opens its gates for concert-goers and people craving live music. The venue, located at the bank of the Danube, next to the Rákóczi-bridge, thus, begins the season today, writes metropol.hu.
The “multicultural entertaining centre” is open for the whole summer, and has gone through quite some changes, including the expansion of the auditorium in front of the stage. Imre Rimóczi, manager and art director of Park told metropol that a new location called Sportkert (Sports garden) within the venue was established. Here the audience can watch the matches of European Football Championships and the Champions League on a 15 square metre screen.
Furthermore, the escape room, TrapFactory, is available to try out this year too, and on every first Sunday the Mizo-Pöttömkert is open for kids. Also, all of the catering containers will be located in the same area this year and, in order to shorten visitors’ waiting time, the restrooms had been put into blocks.
Károly Gerendai, chief organiser of Sziget said, as representative of Budapest Park, that they are expecting this year to be at least as successful as last year was. Then, 330 thousand people visited the venue to have some fun. The number of presales has increased by 37% which means that the visitors are getting to trust Park more and more.
The organizers put more emphasis on ensuring safety: from this year inspection of bags should be expected and also gates become installed that can detect bombs. This, though, may slow down the entering, therefore, visitors are asked to not bring bigger packages to the concerts, unless it is inevitable, in which case they should leave them at the luggage office outside the venue.
In 2016 again several Hungarian musicians choose Budapest Park to be the place of their special concerts, Irie Maffia for instance, kicks off their tour there and Punnany Massif performs its club concerts – four of them – only at Park. But further performers have been confirmed already to play at Budapest’s largest open-air entertainment venue.
New songs will be performed by Halott Pénz and Wellhello, Zagar celebrates their 15th anniversary, but Hősök and AkkezdetPhiai will also have celebratory concerts, while Kis Grofó brings a show with an orchestra. The audience of Budapest Park can also be part of the concert experiences given by Szabó Balázs bandája, PASO, Quimby or Péterfy Bori & Love Band.
Moreover, performers from abroad will honour the stage of Park, too: it was recently announced that the rock band from Oxford, Foals are coming here in August. Steve Vai, Grammy winner guitarist is going to perform, too, and so are – separately – the descendants of Bob Marley, Damian Jr Gong Marley and Ky-Mani Marley. Also, a Parisian atmosphere will be evoked when ZAZ will take the stage, but the highly popular Canadian punk-rock band, Billy Talent are among the performers, too.
Additionally, lovers of (now) retro music may also find appealing programmes, for Scooter, and Thomas Anders off of Modern Talking, Mr President, the Bestiák, Betty Love, the Happy Gang and the Ámokfutók are also scheduled to play at Budapest Park, for everyone interested.
