Budapest’s traffic to turn upside down during the weekend!
The public transport system of Budapest will change significantly because of a running competition organised this Saturday and Sunday. For example, one of Budapest’s important Danube promenades, the Péter Pázmány Promenade will be closed to the public on those two days. Here is the information and some advice from the Budapest Transport Company (BKK) for the weekend.
The BKK suggests everybody use trams, trolley-buses and metros during the weekend in Budapest because of a running competition. According to their statement, from 8 AM on Saturday until 9 PM on Sunday, they will close Budapest’s illustrious Péter Pázmány Promenade for the public. That, and the running course will change the schedule of many buses passing it, Turizmus Online reported.
The reason is the 37th Budapest Wizz Air Half Marathon. The organizers said they expected runners from at least 80 countries.
Here is the route of the runners, where you should expect temporary closures during the weekend:
Pázmány Péter Promenade – Budai Lower Wharf – Döbrentei Square driveway – Szent Gellért Square – Szent Gellért Wharf – Várkert Wharf – Ybl Miklós Street – Apród Street – Attila Avenue – Alagút Street – Clark Ádám Square – Lánchíd Street – Fő Street – Jégverem Street – Bem Wharf – Árpád fejedelem Avenue – Margaret Bridge north driveway – Margaret Bridge – Margitsziget Központi Street – Árpád Bridge driveway – Árpád Bridge – Tavasz Street – Árpád fejedelem Avenue – Üstökös Street quay exit – Buda Lower Wharf – Egry József quay driveway – Műegyetem Wharf – Pázmány Péter Promenade.
Furthermore, BKK is to close the lower wharves of Pest and the Szabadság Bridge. In the meantime, trams nr 4 and 6 will commute more frequently on Sunday morning.
On Sunday morning, some trams 2, 2B and 2M will not commute between Boráros Square and Széchenyi István Square. Furthermore, trams 19 and 41 will not touch the Bem Wharf. Trams 47 and 49 will not commute in Pest. Moreover, you may only be able to get from Buda to Pest and vice versa via metro line nr 4 and buses nr 7 and 133E.
Bus nr 16 and 26 will not be in service on Sunday, and trolley bus nr 83 will not touch the Fővár Square. Buses nr. 5, 105 and 178 will not commute on their usual course. Bus nr 226 will not go to Margaret Island.
