Bus driver beaten unconscious for telling passengers to wear masks – VIDEO

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, many restrictions have been implemented in Hungary. While most restrictions were laxer than in other countries, mask-wearing on public transportation has been mandatory since the beginning. However, there are people who take the matter so seriously that they nearly beat someone to death for asking them to follow the rules.

Police charges

According to the information of Telex, last Friday, in the early morning, two men attacked a bus driver at the terminal of Martonvásár. Telex found out that while travelling between Gyúró and Martonvásár, some passengers did not comply with the restrictions. The driver asked them to follow the rules and put on a mask. Since those passengers constantly tried to take off their masks, the driver had to ask them multiple times.

When the bus arrived at the terminal, the two disrespectful passengers simply attacked the driver.

After Telex inquired about the case at the driver’s company, they directed them to the Fejér County police since they pressed charges and initiated a proceeding. The police confirmed the news site’s information; they received a report of two men assaulting a driver after he asked them to obey the mandatory epidemiological restrictions.

The Gárdony Police Headquarters initiated a criminal procedure on the suspicion of violence against a person performing public tasks. They are still trying to identify the perpetrators.

Life-threatening injuries

The Prosecution Service of Hungary had recently posted about the development of another, similar case, where the driver was beaten unconscious and had suffered serious injuries.

According to the charges, the 31-year-old perpetrator and his friend wanted to get on the bus arriving from the direction of Újpest-központ. The two men were waiting at the stop and wanted to get on through the second door, but when the driver saw that they were not wearing a mask, he did not open the door for them because of the mandatory restrictions.

The perpetrators then went to the first door to tell the driver to let them on. The driver told the two men that he would open the doors if they wore their masks as the restrictions require.

The two men continued to be indignant about the matter, and the driver decided to open the door and talk to the two men.

Shortly after the driver got out, the 31-year-old man punched him in the face with such force that the driver immediately lost consciousness and helplessly fell, hitting the back of his head.

Origo reported that the attacker refused to provide first aid, and the two men left, leaving the driver on the ground with his injuries.

Fortunately, the other passengers called an ambulance, but as it turns out, the driver’s head injuries were life-threatening.

The Prosecutor’s Office filed a report for causing life-threatening bodily harm and violence against a person performing public tasks.

The 31-year-old man has a criminal record, and the Prosecutor’s Office suggests a prison sentence.
