Cardinal Erdo to celebrate ecumenical service for Christian martyrs
Budapest (MTI) – Cardinal Peter Erdo, archbishop of Budapest-Esztergom, will celebrate an ecumenical prayer session for recently martyred Christians, at Budapest’s St Michael Church on Friday.
The event will be attended by leaders of other Christian churches in Hungary, the organiser Sant’Egidio community told MTI.
The organisers noted that the persecution of Christians by Islamic fundamentalists had escalated in several countries of the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. They added that in Syria alone, the Christian community had shrunk from an earlier 1.8 million to 1.1 million people, many of them living as refugees in their own country.
The prayers will be offered for those killed for their faith in 2014, as well as for victims of the Armenian genocide 100 years ago.
