Snow has arrived in Hungary! – PHOTOS, VIDEO, UPDATED

First snow in Hungary

Snow arrived in Hungary this morning. Interestingly, the first snow did not fall in the mountains but in a town on the edge of the Hungarian Great Plains, Dunaújváros. The Hungarian town well-known for its struggling steelworks was covered this morning in a thin layer of white precipitation. Furthermore, reports came from Debrecen and Tiszafüred about light snowfall.

According to portfolio.hu, the Dunaújváros snowfall was caused by the so-called industrial snowfall phenomena. Industrial snow occurs near sources of heat, moisture and atmospheric particulate matter. It usually occurs at nighttime, in a combination of freezing temperatures, stagnant low stratus clouds or fog, and a temperature inversion. It falls from a low altitude as fine ice spikes, having not had time to grow to the more usual shaped snowflake.

“We’re not joking! Here’s the first snow”, Időkép wrote above this photo:

Időkép reported light snowfall from Debrecen and Tiszafüred caused by the freezing temperatures in East Hungary.

You may check out Időkép’s camera footage about the snowfall by clicking HERE.

Hungary is the ‘safest part’ in Europe, the Hungarian government believes

Budapest tourism Hungary coronavirus basilica

Central Europe, including Hungary, is “the safest part of the continent”, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook on Saturday.

The minister insisted that “recently only those have denied that fact for whom it was extremely inconvenient”. “But this week reality came across,” he said referring to “openly raging anti-Semitism” in the Netherlands when “Israeli football fans were “being chased” in the street.

“Just think of the statements the cawing liberal mainstream could have made … should developments ten times less serious had happened in the central part of Europe!” the minister suggested.

Szijjártó noted that Israel’s national eleven had chosen Hungary as a safe country to play in. “The situation is clear: western Europe has been flooded by migrants but Hungary will not be their destination; here is another proof that we have been correct.”

What happened? Hungarian pilots intercepted Romanians in Hungarian airspace – PHOTOS

Hungarian pilots intercepted Romanians in Hungarian airspace

Thankfully, it was just a drill, which was necessary to maintain and develop the skills of the Romanian and Hungarian pilots.

According to the Facebook page of the MH vitéz Szentgyörgyi Dezső 101. Repülődandár (the 101st aviation brigade headquartered in Kecskemét, Central Hungary), Romanian and Hungarian pilots trained together in Romania’s airspace.

The Interceptor 2024 military drill aimed to help Romanian and Hungarian pilots practice aerial combats and interception. Such drills have become a tradition lately, helping to improve the skills of the pilots.

Hungarian pilots in Romanian airspace

First, Hungarian Gripen fighter jets intercepted their Romanian ‘adversaries’ flying on F-16 fighters in Romanian airspace. Then, they practised 2v2 BVR (Beyond Visual Range) aerial combat. In the second phase, they flew to Hungarian airspace, and the Romanian pilots intercepted their Hungarian colleagues and practised 2v2 BVR again.

According to the Facebook post, such training is necessary to develop the pilots’ skills, help protect Hungary’s and Romania’s airspace, and strengthen the cooperation of the NATO member states.

Thousands of families in crisis before Christmas: biggest Hungarian steel works cannot pay

Thousands of families in crisis before Christmas biggest Hungarian steel works cannot pay

The government resolutely urges Liberty Steel to pay wages due to Duna Steel Works employees in line with its legal obligations, the national economy ministry said on Thursday.

The Liberty group received significant government support until last June, which helped save jobs and families’ livelihoods, the statement said.

The Indian-British company group has so far failed to fulfil its promises to develop the steel works or its obligation to restart production, it said. Instead, it had made repeated false promises in the recent period, it added.

The current owner of the Duna Steel Works has claimed that it cannot afford to pay the wages of several thousand workers, “which is unacceptable”, the ministry said.

The government is ready to intervene to protect the workers, and if necessary it can again offer help from the Wage Guarantee Fund, the ministry said.

Wizz Air challenged Romanian competitor but will not be happy for this decision

wizz air italy

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on Wednesday dismissed a challenge by Hungary’s Wizz Air of European Commission clearance for close to EUR 2m in state aid for Romanian airline TAROM.

The EC had cleared the state aid, in the spring of 2022, to compensate for damage suffered because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The court ruled that the aid was permitted and that the EC had correctly assessed the proportionality of the aid. It rejected Wizz Air’s arguments that the EC had not taken into account previous rescue aid granted to TAROM and that it had underestimated the competitive advantage obtained by TAROM.

Hungary’s MOL has boosted daily production at a field in Vecsés, on the outskirts of the capital, by 600 barrels of oil with the addition of a third well, the oil and gas company said in an announcement on the website of the Budapest Stock Exchange on Wednesday.

Daily production at the Vecsés field now stands around 4,000 barrels, close to 30pc of MOL’s domestic production and 4pc of group-level production.

Archibald Schubert, managing director of MOL E+P Hungary, said the company planned to plough close to HUF 100bn into exploration and production in Hungary over the next three years.
