Caution: Motorists in Hungary can expect heavy snowfall on Thursday and Friday
Heavy snowfall is expected in the north-eastern counties of the country from Thursday afternoon. Make sure to check the weather forecast before leaving home.
Heavy snowfall is mainly expected in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Hajdú-Bihar counties in the coming days. More than 5 centimetres of fresh snow may fall in the lowland areas of the three counties. However, in the Zemplén Hills, it may be double that.
Hungarian Public Roads (Magyar Közút) is preparing in advance for snow clearing and de-slippage works. Still, motorists are being asked to be more vigilant as most of them have already changed their winter tyres.
All motorists are advised to keep a greater following distance than usual and to drive more slowly. For current road and visibility conditions, check www.utinform.hu.
