CeeLo Green to perform at the opening ceremony of the World Aquatics Championships
László Gőz, musical director of the opening ceremony, told hvg.hu that the multiple Grammy Award winner CeeLo Green will perform at the opening ceremony of the World Aquatics Championships. The star will fill in for Emeli Sandé, who cancelled her performance and her whole tour due to sickness.
The opening ceremony of the championships costs 3.4 billion forints (~EUR 11m), out of which 1 billion (~EUR 3.2m) is spent on the artistic contributors. CeeLo Green will perform two songs and his performance fits into the original budget. The two hour long ceremony will include a 90 minute musical block, which presents Hungarian music history from classics to modern melodies.
More than 500 artists, 220 volunteers and sportspeople will be part of the opening ceremony. Their performance, the costumes, the decor, the screenings and the backstage work all form a part of the budget.
“This is going to be the biggest event ever held in Hungary, so it is very important for the country image. The creators have been preparing the all-artistic production for several months” said László Gőz. The best part is probably that you can watch the whole ceremony for free from the coast of Danube.
Thomas DeCarlo Callaway (CeeLo Green) is an American R&B/hiphop singer-song writer-producer-actor. He has won five Grammy Awards. He started his solo career in 1999, when he worked with Santana on his world-famous Supernatural album. He came out with six solo albums since then, and is mostly known for his Crazy and Fuck You! hit songs.
He also played in several movies and series, and was a judge in the American Voice. He performed at Sziget Festival three years ago:
