Changes coming to Budapest public transport tickets and passes
The Budapest Transport Centre (Budapesti Közlekedési Központ, BKK) is making changes to its tickets and season passes. Additional information will be added to some paper tickets and passes from Wednesday, 24 May. The aim is to provide information on travel conditions in a more eye-catching way, the transport company told MTI on Tuesday.
According to the announcement, the main purpose of the change is to display a message about ticket validation. The right side of the ticket image on the regular ticket, the block of ten single tickets (gyűjtőjegy) and the ticket exchanged on the spot will be renewed. Customers will also receive information in English and Hungarian on how to validate the ticket at the start of the journey, making it even clearer to use them.
On the right side of the regional tickets (környéki vonaljegy), it will be indicated that they cannot be used within Budapest. Full-fare, 50 percent and 90 percent discount regional interurban tickets (környéki helyközi vonaljegy) can be used between the outer terminus of the Budapest region and the first stop within the Budapest border, they said.
According to BKK, the users of the group 24-hour ticket will see an additional text message next to the pictogram depicting five people. The text will indicate that the group day ticket is for five people travelling together.
Additional pictures are added to the bike and dog passes: the former with “extra bike”, the latter with “9 paws” to clarify the use. When checking the passes, it is thus clear that they can only be used for transporting bicycles or dogs, the communiqué says.
The previously printed ticket products affected by the above change can still be used for travel within their validity period, BKK pointed out.
