Hungary’s cheapest thermal bath reopens: Borostyán welcomes visitors again!

After several months of closure, the Borostyán Camping and Strandfürdő in Mezőkovácsháza has reopened its thermal pool, giving locals and tourists alike the chance to enjoy one of the region’s most affordable wellness spots.

Months of waiting come to an end

The southern Békés County facility had closed its doors on 1 August 2025 due to technical problems that made safe operation impossible. According to Beol, the management at the time explained that the necessary repairs were essential to ensure visitors’ safety. For months, locals eagerly awaited news of the pool’s reopening, and the wait finally ended on 27 December 2025.

Sándor Serfőző, CEO of Mezőkovácsházi Településgazdálkodási Kft., confirmed that the reopening was made possible by the completion of technical repairs, successful maintenance work, and positive water quality results. “We’ve also improved the pool area’s comfort, ensuring an enjoyable experience even in winter conditions,” he said.

Modern upgrades and nighttime charm

The thermal pool has undergone winterisation and now features energy-efficient LED mood lighting, enhancing the atmosphere for evening and night visits. According to the management, these upgrades provide visitors with an extra dimension to their bathing experience, particularly after dark.

Healing amber waters at an unbeatable price

Borostyán’s thermal water is renowned for its distinctive amber colour and therapeutic properties, often used to relieve musculoskeletal issues and other health complaints. The facility remains a beloved local treasure thanks to its high-quality medicinal water and extremely affordable entry fee.

Visitors can enjoy the thermal pool for just HUF 999 (EUR 2.6), making it one of the cheapest thermal baths in the country. Weekend opening hours are 14:00–24:00 on Saturdays and 14:00–20:00 on Sundays, with entrance via the Borostyán Camping area.

Serfőző added: “This facility is a true asset for the community, and we hope visitors will appreciate the improvements as much as we enjoyed implementing them.”

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing soak after a long week or a therapeutic dip to soothe aches, the Borostyán thermal pool offers a unique and affordable winter escape in the heart of southern Hungary.
