Cogwheel railway is running again in the Buda Hills
The cogwheel railway (fogaskerekű) will be running again from Monday 11 December 2023. During low traffic periods, the Telefogas will be partially replaced by the 60B Telebus to further reduce environmental noise pollution.
Thanks to the measures taken by the Budapest Transport Centre and the work carried out by BKV Zrt., the operation of the “60 cogwheel” will continue to be ensured, with trains running on the entire line again from 11 December 2023.
According to BKK, the line, built and operated to the technological standards of the last century, has long been a favourite of the people of Budapest, but has been facing technical and traffic challenges. BKK’s goal is to ensure that the rack-and-pinion line will be maintained, improved and serve the needs of customers living in/travelling to the area in the long term. To ensure technical conditions, twice-yearly scheduled maintenance is carried out to repair any faults, this time at the Forest School station. This regular service will ensure the safe operation of the cogwheel until the funds are available for a full refurbishment.
