Cold front to arrive in Hungary, snowfall and dangerous roads expected
Although the weather was milder on Thursday, another cold front will soon arrive in Hungary, bringing precipitation and dangerous roads.
“The cold front of Cyclone Irene will move over us from Thursday to Friday night, with significantly colder air behind it flooding the Carpathian Basin, causing temperatures to drop by several degrees. This temperature drop will not be as significant in the colder northern part of the country on Thursday, but compared to today’s noon temperatures, temperatures in the south may drop by 10-16 degrees Celsius by noon on Friday, and even by 17-18 degrees Celsius in places,” HungaroMet said.
From dawn, light snowfall is likely in several places, followed by snowfall. In the south and south-west of the country, 2-5 cm of snow is expected, with more in some places.
Due to the risk of sleet, orange alerts have been issued in several areas. The National Ambulance Service said it had been alerted to an outbreak of accidents in the capital on Wednesday. A similar situation is expected on Friday, with road users being asked to be more alert to reduce the number of accidents.
