Commissioner in charge of tourism: Hungary safe destination for Russian tourists
Moscow (MTI) – Russian tourists highly value that Hungary is a safe country, Hungary’s government commissioner in charge of tourism said on Wednesday.
Gusztáv Bienerth is paying a visit to Moscow this week to explore possibilities for reversing a decline in the number of Russian tourists visiting Hungary.
While the number of foreign tourists visiting Hungary has gone up by 15 percent this year, the number of guests from Russia has dropped by 21 percent, the commissioner said.
“Hungary is a safe country. This is what Russian tourists are looking for and why they are turning away from Egypt and other destinations,” he told MTI at the Otdih International Tourism Forum.
Bienerth noted that beside the traditional tourist attractions of the city of Budapest and the western spa resorts including Hévíz, Hungary is promoting the region of east Hungarian Debrecen as an attractive destination.
