Startling: Hungarian university bans condoms from freshers’ camp

The organisers aim to discourage sexual activity among students by prohibiting condoms at the freshers’ camp of a BME faculty. BME, or Budapest University of Technology and Economics, is a leading technical and economics Hungarian university.
The freshers’ camp of BME’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (VIK) started this Tuesday in Bodajk, a small village in Fejér County, close to Budapest. According to 444.hu, the camp’s organisers asked all participants not to bring condoms to the event.
Additionally, the organisers of the freshers’ camp of the Hungarian university banned drinks exceeding two litres in volume, aerosol deodorants, nail clippers, small scissors, safety razors, aluminium canned drinks, and energy drinks. They requested adherence to these rules to ensure a safe and undisturbed camping experience.
Given that it is a freshers’ camp, one might assume such rules to be a prank. However, they are not. When 444.hu contacted the student union of the Hungarian university, they received a surprising response. The union chairman of the Hungarian university confirmed that these rules are taken very seriously. The organisers believe that if students are unable to obtain condoms, they are less likely to engage in sexual activity during the camp.

Sometines rules are just meant to be broken. I am sure students will figure out innovative ways to break these ridiculous rules. Would love hear students side of the story after the camp – maybe DNH could do some investigative journalism…

This approach is completely daft and contrary to received wisdom about protecting public health. Healthy young people, freed from the shackles of family life for the first time ever, what could possibly go wrong? Surely the decision to engage in intercourse is a decision solely for consenting young adults to take and the organisers should be encouraging safe practices?
That is just plain stupid. What sort of logic is this? STI’s are becoming drug resistant, HIV is still available etc. How totally and utterly stupid. Young people away from parental Cottrol are gong to have sex like rabbits. FACT.
Sounds to me like the religious zealots from the catholic church or the Baptists from the USA have a finger in this pie! Totally and utterly the wrong idea.
Hungary is going down the rabbit hole of extremist right-wing stupidity gone amok. It just gets worse. These extremists have misplaced their brains somehow. Vote for Fidesz if you want more of this sort of thing and the rest of us in the “decaying West” will watch from a safe distance.
