Coronavirus – Hungary to buy large amount of Russian vaccine

Hungary will buy a large amount of vaccine against the coronavirus from Russia, to be supplied in three stages, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Friday after talks with Russian health minister Mikhail Murashko.

He said the contract with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) was signed the previous evening.

“It is in Hungary’s national interest to secure further safe and effective vaccines in order to speed up vaccination in the midst of the pandemic,” Szijjártó added.

Further details of the contract and detailed plans for the vaccine shipments will be made available later in the day, he said.

Buying vaccine from Russia will save lives and speed up Hungary’s return to normal life, he added. He noted that the emergency use of Sputnik V had been approved by the Hungarian authorities after experts of the national pharmaceutical authority observed the circumstances of production at an on-site visit.

Murashko praised the success of talks and the outlook for cooperation, saying that Sputnik V was contributing to efforts to fight the pandemic in a growing number of countries.

Szijjártó is scheduled to meet Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, Minister of Energy Nikolai Shulginov, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Trade and Industry Denis Manturov, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller and Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev later in the day.

  1. Humongous decision for Hungary – a Humanitarian judgement – position -taken by the Foreign Minister – Peter Szijjarto.
This is a DECISION – that will create vastness of controversy and objection negativity – and Doubt of effectiveness – Rightfully – in the citizens of Hungary.
This is a “going it alone” decision – disregarding The European Union – which there will be waves of controversy and attack on Hungary – but of greater Humanitarian concern, the use of a Vaccine, that has not been approved by European or World wide respected Medical Science Facilities – who make these decisions, relating to vaccine inoculation into Humans.
Didn’t know that Peter Szijjarto – his academic credentials included that as a qualified Immunologist.

  2. Harper Lee would undoubtedly turn in his grave if he had the misfortune to read these comments attributed to his great fictional character, Atticus Finch.

Writers who so obviously have no proper grasp of the English language should refrain from using such associations to have their ‘SHMENGLISH’ remarks published.

  3. Harper Lee – was a Female.
    To Kill a Mockingbird.
Read it and you would know the sexuality of the writer, instead of making yourself appear an imbecile.
Comments made by Finch understood and good points raised.
Does appear Hungary has got problems with it’s vaccine injection and the type they wish to choose.
Hope they get it sorted out and make the right decision.

  4. J.N.J – lol! About time someone put that commentator in his/her place (whichever pseudonym he or she uses – of which there are many).
