Coronavirus – Teacher union PSZ calls for further restrictions
Teacher’s union PSZ has called on the government to take further measures to slow the spread of coronavirus in the education sector, including testing all of the sector’s workers and exempting teachers with chronic illnesses from work.
PSZ said in a statement that schools should be given the option of closing for a period of two weeks and switching to online classes if any of their students or staff members contract the virus.
The union recommends that primary schools should offer hybrid classes to students from fifth grade up while all secondary schools should switch to online classes. Also,
the state should ensure one parent of every student aged 14 or older a leave-of-absence allowance, the statement said.
In addition, kindergarten and school teachers teaching in-person classes as well as dormitory teachers should receive compensation amounting to 20 percent of their salary, PSZ said.
