Budapest flooded by Asian tourists

Foreign tourists have spent more than 6,000,000 nights in Budapest in the first eight months of 2018, Turizmus.com reports. This number shows a great trend, as the number of overnight stays in Budapest has never been this high in the first eight months. Every 6th traveller came from Asia.

Budapest’s tourism is booming. From January to August, there have been almost 7,000,000 overnight stays in Budapest, reported the Budapest Festival and Tourism Centre based on statistical data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH).

The positive effect of tourism can be seen on the Hungarian hotels’ revenues as well, which have increased by 16.7% since last year. An average revenue of 75 Euros/room was calculated this August, which is 17.9% higher than it was last year.

The gross revenue of all the accommodations in Budapest is currently somewhere near EUR 465,000,000.

The number of overnight guests was high even in the first seven months of 2018, but it continued to increase in August, resulting in a total No. of more than 6,000,000 guests between January and August.

An interesting fact is that, statistically, every 6th guest comes from Asia.

This August, the No. of guests arriving in Budapest increased by 6.7%. The No. of overnight stays increased as well. The gross revenue of the different accommodations increased by 13.8%.

These numbers show that more and more people decide to come and stay in Budapest each year.

The No. of foreign overnight guests has never exceeded 6,000,000 before.

So far this year, 2,545,025 foreign guests came to Budapest, and

they spent altogether 6,070,093 nights in the Hungarian capital.

By the way, the total number of guests (locals and foreigners together) was 2,980,761, and they spent 6,943,860 nights in Budapest between January and August. Foreign tourists spent 2.4 nights, while local guests spent 2 nights on average in the capital.

Based on the statistics from the first eight months of the year (974,977), by September, the No. of Asian guests could have reached 1,000,000. This basically means that every 6th guest is Asian, coming from either India, Israel, Japan, China, Korea or other Asian or Middle-Eastern countries.

This is not really surprising if we take a look at other statistics. Based on the No. of travels abroad, China has been leading the charts since 2013. The highest No. of people who travel abroad come from China, Zoom.hu reports.
